| | | At Hills and Falls, the focus of our program is on the whole child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. Teachers collaborate to develop themes and creative activities that integrate sensory experiences, pre-reading and pre-math concepts, science, social studies, art, social and self-help skills. While each class explores their own themes, there are also collaborative events that bring the 3, 4, and 5 year-olds together. This year, for instance, all three classrooms participated in a two-week unit on the Vancouver Olympic games. The children made passports, painted banners for their opening ceremonies, made waffles with Canadian maple syrup, and played variations of Olympic sports.
A number of specialists are regularly incorporated into the curriculum, including a music teacher and a movement specialist. We also enjoy yearly visits from Curious Creatures and the New England Aquarium.
